We have added some guidance leaflets and information to our website about e-safety. This guidance gives clear information to children about how to better protect themselves from a whole range of issues – including what to do if they are subjected to cyber bullying or who to contact if they receive unacceptable texting on a mobile phone.

For parents, there is a lot of advice on supporting their children to understand that, whilst the internet offers wonderful learning and social opportunities, like other things in life (such as being near rivers or at the seaside or crossing roads to play in the local park) there are risks that have to be recognised and prepared for. Parents themselves would probably also find that lots of the guidance that is aimed at children would be useful for them to know too.
This new guidance has been produced by the city of Sunderland. It will reinforce other guidance and information on our website. Although there is a lot to read in the new guidance, as with other e-safety advice on our website, it does all need to be carefully read and considered so that children – with parental support – can learn about how to become more “e-safe”.
