The theme of The Year of Mary for May is: “Workers”.
We have been learning about the work that CAFOD do to help those people who have been forced to flee from their homes and become refugees.
Today, Pat from CAFOD came into school to lead as assembly that focussed on the plight of refugees and what CAFOD does to help them.
Following this, years five and six took part in a workshop in which they pretended to be refugees. In this they have to decide on six items that they would take with them, if they had to leave their homes. However there was a twist to this where along the way events occurred in which items were either lost or simply had to be left behind.
This really got the children thinking about the situation that children of their age find themselves in on a daily basis.
CAFOD is the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development.
