This overview shows the focus of the Religious Education Curriculum for the year ahead.


Autumn

This term we will be studying the three themes of Domestic Church (Homes), Baptism and Confirmation (Promises) and Advent and Christmas (Visitors). The children will also spend a week studying Judaism.

This term we will be studying the three themes of Local Church (Journeys), Eucharist, (Thanksgiving), Lent/Easter (Giving All).

This term we will be studying the three themes of Pentecost (Energy), Choices (), Universal Church (Special Places). The children will also spend a week studying Islam

Domestic Church

 HOMES - God’s vision for every family

Pupils will know and understand ‘the joys and sorrows of being a family at home.’

Pupils will know and understand God’s vision for every family.

Local Church

 JOURNEYS - Christian family’s journey with Christ

Pupils will know and understand about a journey through a year.

Pupils will know and understand the Christian family’s journey with Jesus through the Church’s year.

Pentecost

ENERGY - Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Pupils will know and understand the energy of fire and wind.

Pupils will know and understand the wonder and power of the Holy Spirit.

Judaism

PLACES FOR WORSHIP – Synagogue

Pupils will know and understand what can be seen and what happens in a synagogue.

Pupils will appreciate the importance of the Synagogue for Jewish people.

Eucharist

LISTENING AND SHARING - Jesus gives himself to us

Pupils will know and understand listening and sharing with one another.

Pupils will appreciate the importance of

listening to the Word of God and sharing in Holy Communion.

Choices

CHOICES- Pupils will know and understand choices have consequences.

Pupils will remember, celebrate and respond to choices have consequences and the importance of conscience in making choices.

Baptism/Confirmation

PROMISES- Promises made at Baptism

Pupils will know and understand that belonging to a group involves promises and rules.

Pupils will know and understand the meaning of the promises made at Baptism.

Lent / Easter

GIVING ALL - Lent: remembering Jesus’ total giving

Pupils will know and understand how people give themselves.

Pupils will know and understand Lent, a time to remember Jesus’ total giving.

Islam

PLACES FOR WORSHIP – The Mosque

Pupils will know and understand the Mosque is a special place and Friday is a special day of prayer.

Pupils will know about the Call to Prayer and the role of the Imam.

Advent/Christmas

VISITORS - waiting for the coming of Jesus

Pupils will know and understand the demands and joys of visitors.

Pupils will know and understand about Advent: waiting for the coming of Jesus.

Universal Church

SPECIAL PLACES - Holy places for Jesus and the Christian community

Pupils will know and understand that everyone has a special place.

Pupils will know and understand special places for Jesus and the Christian community.
