A reminder when planning holidays
SATs are held from Monday 14th to Friday 18th May 2018
It is very important that you do not book holidays during the school term
and especially not leading up to May.
Your child’s attendance does affect their education.
School Term Dates and Holidays
Sunderland Schools Term Dates
Taking holidays in term time: Parents may know that the Government is requiring strict new rules about holidays in term time. In January 2012 OFSTED released a new framework for inspections. In this framework schools are to be judged on their attendance with an overall attendance of 95% being only satisfactory. Naturally, schools aspire to be outstanding in all aspects of their work. The school term dates are set well in advance so that parents can plan holidays outside of school term time.

Headteacher's Letter Spring Term 2018
9th January 2018
Welcome back after the Christmas break, the staff and I would like to thank you for your generosity and for the gifts given to staff by the children. We would also like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy New Year. Once again thank you for the continued support you give to your child and school.
A reminder that it is still essential that your child reads every night and you sign your child’s reading record, we have found that this is improving the children’s reading levels and is of great benefit.
I am pleased to see all the children coming to school in full school uniform but can I ask that your child wears the correct black shoes and not trainers or other coloured shoes. There is still a major problem in school where the children’s uniform is NOT CLEARLY marked with their name. Please can we ask that you check all of your child’s uniform at home to make sure they have not come home with someone else’s uniform.
In accordance with our school uniform policy as agreed by the governors of St. Anne’s, no jewellery should be worn in school. If you want your child’s ears to be pierced in term time you must make an appointment to see Mrs Lynch. Please can we ask that you have your child’s ears pierced at the start of the summer holidays, so that they can be removed in September. School does not permit children to have extreme haircuts; this includes extreme colouring, stripe lines and patterns to the scalp.
Please could I ask that all dinner money is paid to school each Monday morning, this has to be sent to the Civic Centre in advance of your child receiving their lunch and delays in payment do cause problems.
The cost of a school dinner is £2.00 per day, £10.00per week.
Year 4 children will be going to swimming lessons beginning Monday 15th January; please can you make sure your child has their swimming things with them each week.
Year 6 children will be taking part in their SAT’s between Monday 14th May until Friday 18th . All of the other children will be taking part in the SATs tests between Tuesday 8th May and Friday 25th May.
It is very important that all children especially Year 6 are in school every day.
All children MUST have a PE kit clearly marked with their name kept in school.
We are finding that a number of children are missing out on their curriculum entitlement due to the fact that they do not have their PE kit and gym shoes. Unfortunately they are also missing out on other activities such as football coaching, dance, etc.
Please can we ask that every effort be made to ensure that all of our children access PE lessons, which can only help to benefit them.
You will now be able to order uniform at any time during the school year; this will take approximately 3 – 4 weeks to arrive. We now hold very little stock in school so please order in advance. Payment must be made when you bring the order into school.
Year 6 Booster classes will be held every Wednesday from 3:00pm – 4:00pm and will begin on the Wednesday 17th January until further notice. Please can you make every effort for your child to attend these sessions, which will be of great benefit to your child’s SATs.
If you have a child or know of anyone who has a child whose date of birth falls between 1st September 2014 – 31st August 2015, they will be eligible to start Nursery in September 2018.
The meeting for the admission of children to St. Anne’s Nursery is to be held in early March, if you require a place you must complete an application form. The forms are available from the school office, any child can apply for a Nursery place.
The after school clubs will begin on Monday 15th January details of which are on this website.
It is important that both you and your child know which clubs they are attending so that arrangements can be made for you to collect them from school at the later time.
Mrs C A Lynch
Year 5 and Year 6 have enjoyed a visit from the charity Kidscape this afternoon. Danny Gilchrist delivered an informative assembly reminding children of the true meaning of bullying and the effects it can have upon the targeted child/children. He also offered great advice on how children can seek help and support each other by being positive bystanders.
